Job Description

Under the direction of the President & CEO, the Vice President (VP) for Development plays a key leadership role in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and successful plan to raise revenue for two 501c3 organizations: Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCTX) and In Home Care. This position supervises the development team to include: fundraising, grants, events and contract management.

The VP for Development works closely with the communications department to maintain consistent messaging across all fundraising and public relations avenues.  He/She/They will work proactively with donors, foundations, volunteers, staff and board members while presenting themselves with integrity, poise, confidence and sincerity. The successful candidate should demonstrate cultural competence: awareness, attitude, knowledge, willingness and skills to work effectively with diverse staff, vendor, client, volunteer and donor populations.  The VP of Development should be a clear, effective and engaging speaker, highly organized and possess excellent planning, research and team management skills.

Essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for full-cycle strategic and comprehensive development activities that ensure continuous contributions to MOWCTX and In Home Care. Includes target goals, objectives, fundraising amounts and increase in donors, annual campaigns, grants, special events, major gifts, endowments, unsolicited donations and, if warranted capital campaigns.
  • Ensures the development, production, publishing, distribution and cost tracking of all direct mail solicitations and other stewardship opportunities.
  • Oversees timely completion and submission of grants.
  • Collaborates with the Event Planner to develop and implement plans for targeted special events including goals, strategy, projected revenue and expenses, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Oversees prospect research and maintains files for individuals, corporations, foundations and groups having the ability to support MOWCTX and In Home Care through charitable gifts, grants, goods and services.
  • Ensures prompt acknowledgement of gifts and honorarium notifications.
  • Collaborates with the communications department to ensure development activities are positively linked with public relations, traditional and online marketing activities, and carried out continuously to create/expand community awareness and publication of both organizations, services, fundraising and needs.
  • Represents the organization in the community by participating and presenting at community and organizational events, to include evening and weekend meetings and events as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain succession plans for critical development positions.
  • Enable a culture of continuous improvement by establishing and maintaining an environment where new ideas and solutions are encouraged, evaluated, quantified and implemented.
  • Nurtures an organizational environment in which staff members are encouraged and have confidence to communicate problems or opportunities.
  • Evaluates assigned staff performance, provides continuous feedback, acknowledges and rewards strengths and accomplishments, assesses needs, develops competency plans and provides opportunities for learning.


Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years proven professional work experience in a responsible fund raising position
  • Technical and grant writing experience or suitable alternative experience
  • Three years’ project management experience
  • Demonstrated success in a business leadership role
  • Must have extensive experience and be skilled in the use of software programs such as Microsoft Office and CRM database such as Salesforce
  • Strong personnel management and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities and tasks appropriately
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; produce executive level reports and presentations; articulate knowledge base when required to present
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated consistent sound judgment and decision making
  • Model a high level of accountability and personal integrity; able to communicate across the organization openly and with respect
  • Ability to work long hours, evenings and weekends as needed in support of MOWCTX mission and department objectives
  • Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License, vehicle insurance and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties
