Meals on Wheels Central Texas is celebrating 51 years of delivering a nutritious meal to our homebound and elderly community in Central Austin. We are expanding our staff, and we have an immediate opening for a Program Assistant - HOPE/ GTG to join our team.

Shift/Pattern and FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-exempt; Hybrid.

Supervisor: HOPE/GTG/PALS Program Manager

Payrate: $17.00

  • Respond to interested HOPE and GTG volunteers and schedule training. Complete registration paperwork.
  • Conduct HOPE/GTG training when necessary.
  • Maintain good communication and courteous and professional relationships with volunteers.
  • Proficiently update and maintain data in Salesforce for client and volunteer information.
  • Support the HOPE and GTG Program Manager as needed with incoming requests for client assistance.
  • Remain in close and good communication with manager and referring case managers.
  • Add and remove clients from programs as needed.
  • Organize, oversee, and execute the volunteer monthly HOPE packing event.
  • Participate in the 2nd Saturday HOPE distribution.
  • Creating monthly program expense reports.
  • Delivery of HOPE bags when volunteers are not available.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One-year direct customer service experience
  • One year of administrative work experience, including data collection, record keeping and generating of reports
  • Ability to communicate professionally, verbally and in writing
  • Experience in communicating with older adults and people with disabilities strongly desired
  • Handle multiple and changing priorities and needs
  • Ability to work with a diverse clientele who have ongoing social service needs
  • Pleasant, professional phone presence
  • Ability to balance the needs of volunteers, clients, and partnering agencies
  • Ability to problem solve using good judgment, remain organized, work efficiently and self-directed
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and transportation to deliver food and pet items.



  • Work is performed mainly indoors in a climate-controlled office, or home office setting. Some work will be performed indoors at community centers, schools, stores, etc., and some may be performed outdoors at local events and while delivering items.
  • Ability to work in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer, phone and other office productivity devices.
  • Constantly communicates with staff, applicants, and other people. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Occasionally move about inside the office for meetings and to access office resources.
  • Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to pass a Background and reference check.
